A total of 16 students from Bayfield Middle School participated in the Regional Science Fair, as eight 6th graders, one 7th grader, and seven 8th graders showcased their projects and competed against students from other schools in Southwest Colorado. The hard work and dedication of the Wolverine participants paid off, as they earned a whopping 11 ribbons and secured first, second, or third place recognition in multiple categories.
Even more impressively, a total of seven students from BMS qualified for the upcoming Colorado State Science Fair, which will be held at Colorado State University in Fort Collins from April 2nd to 5th. The 8th grade students who qualified for state competition are:
- Quinn Dempsie
- Calvin Nabors
- Silas Morrison
- Aidan Tipton
- Sammy Maloney
Additionally, two 6th grade students also earned state qualifications:
- Ava Boblitt
- Adyson Young
“Bayfield Middle School is incredibly proud of all the participants for their hard work, dedication, and passion for science,” BMS Principal Marcia Hoerl said.
The San Juan Basin Regional Science Fair is a collaborative event hosted by the Powerhouse Science Center, Fort Lewis College, and San Juan BOCES, and this year’s showcase also provided students with a unique opportunity to experience university life, as they were treated to campus tours and interactions with STEM professionals who attended the event.
“The Colorado State Science Fair will offer these students another valuable opportunity to explore higher education and potential careers in STEM fields,” Hoerl said.
