Bayfield School District Announces New Principal for 2022/23 School Year at Bayfield Middle School
Bayfield, Colo. (May 2, 2022) - Marcia Hoerl has been selected as the new Bayfield Middle School Principal. Mrs. Hoerl will assume her new role with the Bayfield School District later this summer when William “Bill” Hesford’s is promoted to Assistant Superintendent.
Mrs. Hoerl earned a bachelor’s in secondary education with an emphasis in psychology and history, a master’s in school counseling, a principal licensure, and will complete her doctoral degree in educational leadership with a focus on K-12 education in the fall of 2022.
With 28 years of experience as an educator, and prior to moving to Durango in 2016, Mrs. Hoerl spent eighteen years teaching social studies in the Cherry Creek School District. Since then, she has served as an assistant principal at Miller Middle School and currently leads as the District Coordinator of Alternative Education for the Durango School District. Each role has allowed Mrs. Hoerl the opportunity for powerful connections with students and families, both inside and outside of the classroom, and have prepared Mrs. Hoerl for her leadership role in Bayfield.
When asked about her new position, Mrs. Hoerl shared, “I am a passionate educator and am prepared to take the next step as the principal of Bayfield Middle School. I am a strong communicator with every stakeholder; however, the most important trait I possess is my dedication to student success. I look forward to bringing commitment, authenticity, and genuine enthusiasm for leading Bayfield’s continued drive towards being a premiere school district in the state of Colorado.”
Superintendent Leon Hanhardt added, “Mrs. Hoerl has an extensive background in education and leadership that we know will benefit the students and staff at Bayfield Middle School and across the district. She has successfully served as an assistant principal at a middle school and her district coordinator position for alternative education at Durango 9R will bring another perspective for our district. I know her experience and passion for the success of our middle school, combined with the strength of our building staff, will help guide our middle school students and staff to the bright future they deserve.”
Mrs. Hoerl and her husband, Jon, the principal of Durango High School, have four children ranging from ages 9 to 17. They love the outdoors and have especially enjoyed raising their children in such a family-focused community.
