BMS Adaptive Ski Trip – Parent Information
Bayfield Middle School is excited to offer an Adaptive Ski experience for selected 7th and 8th-grade students. This unique opportunity allows students to practice independence, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and social-emotional skills in a supported outdoor environment.
📅 Trip Dates
Students will attend Purgatory Ski Resort on the following dates:
January 21, 2026
March 3, 2026
March 12, 2026
A small group of 6 students will participate.
🧤 What Students Should Bring
Please ensure your student comes prepared with cold-weather gear:
Winter coat & winter clothes
Winter shoes
Snacks
Personal hygiene supplies
🥪 Meals
2 students should not receive a school lunch that day.
Sack lunches will be provided for students who need them (4 lunches requested).
📝 Permission Slips
Printed permission slips will be sent home.
Please return all paperwork by January 12, 2026.
Paperwork should be returned to your student’s advisory teacher.
Families were first notified on December 3, 2025.

🎒 Educational Purpose
This trip directly supports students’ academic and IEP goals by allowing them to:
Follow multi-step directions in a real-world environment
Practice independence and problem-solving
Build communication and teamwork skills
Strengthen confidence, perseverance, and self-advocacy
These experiences help students generalize skills related to executive functioning, social interaction, and adaptive needs.
