BMS Adaptive Ski Trip – Parent Information

Bayfield Middle School is excited to offer an Adaptive Ski experience for selected 7th and 8th-grade students. This unique opportunity allows students to practice independence, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and social-emotional skills in a supported outdoor environment.


📅 Trip Dates

Students will attend Purgatory Ski Resort on the following dates:

  • January 21, 2026

  • March 3, 2026

  • March 12, 2026

A small group of 6 students will participate.


🧤 What Students Should Bring

Please ensure your student comes prepared with cold-weather gear:

  • Winter coat & winter clothes

  • Winter shoes

  • Snacks

  • Personal hygiene supplies


🥪 Meals

  • 2 students should not receive a school lunch that day.

  • Sack lunches will be provided for students who need them (4 lunches requested).


📝 Permission Slips

  • Printed permission slips will be sent home.

  • Please return all paperwork by January 12, 2026.

  • Paperwork should be returned to your student’s advisory teacher.

Families were first notified on December 3, 2025.

🎒 Educational Purpose

This trip directly supports students’ academic and IEP goals by allowing them to:

  • Follow multi-step directions in a real-world environment

  • Practice independence and problem-solving

  • Build communication and teamwork skills

  • Strengthen confidence, perseverance, and self-advocacy

These experiences help students generalize skills related to executive functioning, social interaction, and adaptive needs.
