This event is hosted by BHS STEM Dept and is a hands-on introduction to robotics and engineering to give students a first hand experience of what BHS has to offer incoming freshman for 24/25 SY and future STEM related career pathways.
Students get to build a robot and write code to operate it, guided by BSD STEM staff and current High School students. They will also receive some SWAG for taking part.
The CDE CS grant for this is focused on traditionally underrepresented students in the STEM field and priority will be given to those applicants. There are limited spaces and depending on the numbers we will extend this to 7th grade. Any available spaces after this will be given to ALL remaining 8th graders. It will not alter the 8th Grade Schedule for that morning other than you will have some students missing.
Note We will be including Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. (S.O.G.I.) students. Although for the purposes of this event we will not be asking students the full question on the form but will use gender as part of the selection process (Male/Female). Women are generally underrepresented in STEM

I will visit 8th Grade Advisory on Tuesday to introduce this and have you share the link provided below on your classroom screens and if you could add it to your Google Classroom for easy access that would be efficacious. If you intend on having your advisory outside your designated room please wait until I have visited your class. This should only take 5 mins per class.
