August 10, 2016
Dear Students and Families:
The 2016-17 school year is quickly approaching, and I want to take a brief moment to welcome students and families to what will be a fantastic year at Bayfield Middle School.
New Staff. Please join me in welcoming several new teachers to our staff this year. We welcome Susan Nelson, formerly Goddard, back to the BMS staff in 6th grade math and science. Julie Nocito comes to us from the east coast and international teaching and will be teaching Spanish this year. Jessica Stevenson will be joining our Special Education team this year; she and her husband have followed family friends to the area from West Virginia. Finally, Taylor Swanemyr joins our 6th grade team to teach English and Social studies part time.
Open House on Thursday, August 18. Please join us for the Bayfield Middle School Open House on Monday, August 24, from 4:00 to 6:00PM. We are changing the format this year by offering time before the start of school for staff, students, and parents to meet. There will also be food for everyone. Please come and enjoy the time to get to know staff.
School starts on Tuesday, August 23. Staff is on duty at 7:25, and the first bell is 7:50. School dismisses each day at 3:25. Our first day of school will start with an all-school “Welcome Assembly.” Class schedules will be sent out electronically to student email accounts the week prior to school starting. First period advisory classes will also be posted at school on the first day of school for students who can’t access their email.
Updated Communications. I will continue to focus on electronic and website communications for the coming school year. Please make sure that your family email addresses and phone numbers are updated.
First Football and Volleyball Games. Fall sports practice starts August 15. The first home football game is against Cortez on Thursday, August 25. The first home volleyball game against Escalante is on Thursday, September 1. Please check our website for changes to athletic schedules as they are subject to change.
Enjoy your last weeks of summer break, and we’ll see you at the start of school!
